A DAO for technical deep dives and web3 hackathons in Africa.
Buidl Africa is a pioneering initiative focused on catalyzing innovation, education and community building in web3 technologies across Africa. This paper outlines the DAO’s objectives, structure, and potential outcomes, emphasizing Web3’s pivotal role in Africa’s internet, finance, systems, governance, and beyond.
Africa is at the cusp of a technological renaissance, with an expanding digital economy and a burgeoning young tech-savvy population. However, there is a pressing need to bridge the digital divide, promote economic inclusion, and enhance skills to participate in the global web3 economy. The technical deep dives and Web3 hackathon are designed to address these challenges by fostering innovation and knowledge sharing.
Objectives
The primary objectives of the DAO are as follows:
- Education: Raise awareness and understanding of Web3 technologies among Africa developers, entrepreneurs, and enthusiasts.
- Innovation: Foster the creation of innovative Web3 solutions that address local challenges and contribute to global advancements.
- Community Building: Establish a vibrant technical web3 community in Africa, facilitating collaboration and networking among participants.
- Collaboration: Encourage partnerships between African developers, startups, and global web3 projects.
Hopefully, this inspire the next generation of African tech leaders to build decentralized solutions for the continent.
Structure

- The Treasury is a multi-sig wallet managed by 5 (or more) wallets. It holds and manages the DAO’s fund collectively, funding initiatives whose proposals have been reviewed and accepted by the community.
- Proposal: Anyone conducting a deep-dive can submit a proposal to the DAO, seeking support. For now, the support doesn’t need to be extensive; at the very least, it requires space and food, and in some cases, we may only be able to provide light snacks as support. Additionally, support can extend beyond monetary assistance to include other forms of support.
- Technical deep-dives will be events lasting over 4 hours, during which we will thoroughly explore various concepts, protocols, and products. By the end of each session, participants will have deployed something practical. This hands-on experience can inspire continued exploration and engagement with the topic. We will begin technical deep-dives, as they will serve as a precursor to web3 hackathons.
- Web3 hackathons: These hackathons will explore products of sponsoring protocols in a 1-3 day hacking-style event.
- Nodes: Still searching for the right term for this! I have just been thinking about them a lot as nodes. This is anyone conducting a technical deep-dive and/or hackathon across the continent. The question is how can we make/get more nodes, and encourage these events to happen asynchronously in various locations across the continent.
Outcomes
The DAO aims to achieve these key outcomes:
